How can I prevent freezer burn?
I've been noticing freezer burn on the fuzzy rats I'm feeding to my ball python. I know it shouldn't hurt her to eat them, but she doesn't seem to like the ones with freezer burn. What's the best way to prevent frozen rodents from freezer burning?

Great question. I've been asking this of my ice cubes and was too lazy to look it up untill now.
Here is a 5 step way to prevent freezer burn in general.
1. Understand how freezer burn works.
2. Keep the freezer temperature as constant as possible.
3. Keep the temperature in your freezer below 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C). Freezer burn only happens when temperatures fluctuate above 0 degrees F. Use a freezer thermometer to make sure the freezer is cold enough.
4. Package food tightly.
5. Don't store food in freezer for too long.

2. As far as I know, the temperature is constant.
3. Oops on my part regarding number three. Looks like it needs to be colder, just checked.
4. This is a really, really dumb question, but is there any particular type of packaging I should be using? I honestly don't know.
5. How long is too long?

4. heh. I dunno. I guess freezer storage bags would work best. I didn't see a specification.
5. And I guess when they get freezer burnt? We had a years supply of mice in a freezer once, started getting funky around month 9-10; That's with the freezer being left open a couple times paired with power outages. So we now only keep 6-9 months worth of mice at a time.
