New bp acting weird
Ok I bought my first BP yesterday. The weirdest part is, he won't go in any of the hides. Does anyone know what that means? He just lays around in the open or right in front the hot side.

It's probably normal behavior, but I'd triple check to make sure your husbandry is spot on first. Check out the links in my signature (the first couple) for a good place to start.

My temps are spot on. Cool side is reading 81 and the hot is 91. Humidity is 63%. Just weird, when I first put him in he went straight to the vines and stayed on top of those and then this morning he was just laying across the bottom in the front of the tank. I'm like ok I guess you don't like to hide. Lol. I just hope he's not too afraid of the hides which is crazy because that's the #1 place they want to go.

Cool. What kind of thermometer do you have? Heat source (heat mat, lamp, etc)?

Re: New bp acting weird
I only have my BP for 5 weeks, and when i first got him i put him in his new home and left him alone for one week to acclumate, no feeding, no handling. He was in a nice quiet room and for the first couple of days he just explored. He found all his hides went in tried them all and he likes the cool side hide best, except after he eats then he wants his hot hide. otherwise at dusk he is roaming or in his climbing vines. You only have him one day, leave him be, watch him and let your relationship with your new pet begin next week. if he doesn't like the hides, size or to open like the log type then you might need to change them, but give him at least a few days to see.

Yea I guess I'm just worried, I don't want to fail at this. So I'll take your advice and leave him alone for the week. Hopefully he'll get comfortable, then my mind will be at ease.

Nice. It could be that he's not comfortable with that particular hide. They tend to prefer hides that are on the snug side with only one entrance. See if you can find something that fits that criteria for him and see if he changes his behavior. You might also try adding a second hide in there. Maybe he doesn't like the temperature of the one you've given him.

I do have 2, the one he's in front of and the other on the other side of the water dish
