Exploring snake
I handle my ball python pretty regularly, and sometimes he just sits on me while I am on the computer but goes into what I call "Explore mode" is he trying to get back to his cage? Or maybe find something warm? I'm not worried about losing him being as he's pretty slow and doesn't seem to want to run away. My overall question is if it is safe for him to be exploring around. Will it hurt him being in a place of unregulated temperature. I live in Florida so my house uasually sits around 70 and my room (where he lives) is about 80.

It's fine for him to explore but you'll have to keep an eye on him, that means getting off your computer while he investigates. Would keep him consolidated to your room and in places where he wont get stuck or hard to get at. And if you have any other pets like a dog or a cat keep them out.
If you're are not going to stand behind the soldiers, feel free to stand in front of them.

Re: Exploring snake
I've snake proofed the apartment so they can't go behind closets and so and i let them roam. Usually they end up somewhere balled up ;-) Just be careful that you don't lose them. Keep an eye on them while roaming or be ready to tare apartment up looking for him :-)

A few people have said that they let their snakes climb on "cat condos" periodically for exercise, or to keep the snake occupied and safe if they have to be out of the enclosure for a few minutes for cleaning.

Re: Exploring snake
Defiantly pay attention to him. I had mine sitting on the couch with me one day took him about .2 seconds to get in the couch. Never got hurt thank god but now I just watch him on the floor and stuff they love to explore but also love to find new hiding/warm places lol
