Having trouble with my VE-200 temperature spikes

I dont get it.I have it set to proportional and the temp set to 89. The probe is in the middle cage taped on the floor under the newspaper above the flexwatt(boaphiles with heattape under each cage). It will jump up to 95 before turning off then when it gets to 89 it turns back on and jumps back up to 95.
I recently moved my cages and reset everything and this is when I started having this problem.I have two baby ball pythons coming on Tuesday and need this resolved.

Im a bit of an idiot with electronics so its probably some easy fix Im not seeing. Took me forever to set the time right on it.

If I'm reading things correctly you've put the probe of the thermostat inside of the cage? The probe of the thermostat should go on the bottom of the cage, so that it is sandwiched between the bottom of the cage and the flexwatt. Then the probe of your thermometer should be on the floor of the inside of the cage over the flexwatt.

Sounds like you have the stat set to on off mode and not proportional. There should be a settings menu where you can change that.

Tape inside a snake cage is a big no no. They will get to it, and they will get their scales tore up when they get stuck

You have two issues.

First TAPE inside the cage. NEVER use tape inside a cage. Your snake can and will get under the newspaper at some time. Tape can do severe damage to a snake. Whenever you need to attach something like a thermometer probe inside the cage hot glue is a better options.

Second like stated above the probe needs to be outside the cage between the uth and the bottom of the cage.

Lets get things set up that way and see what we get.

Tape NEVER belongs in any reptile enclosure and the probe for the thermostat goes between the heat pas and the flood of the housing.
You then adjust the thermostat so that the surface (flood of the cage under everything) you snakes can touch does not get over 95 degrees.

Okay so I will move the probe outside the cage and inbetween the two boaphiles. ITs such a big probe I didnt think that would work but will do.
My dh is going to help me reset it here after he is done watching his tv.

Still not happy with how much the temps go up and down. My dh set it for proportional and we are still seeing a big temperature difference.If I set it lower it dumps down to 85 and stays there for awhile before the pulse proportional kicks in and then it jumps back up to over 90. Basically there is a good 5 or more degrees of slop above and below the set temperature.
Im not impressed, the cheap BAH500 I had before worked better then this one.
Im going to keep messing around with it to see if I can get things stabilized.

That's not a proportional setting, sounds like you are still set off/on

I have 6 VE-200s. Never had a problem with any of them yet. If you are sure that you have it set to proportional, then it could be stuck in on/off mode and would need to be repaired.
