Scaleless Head ball python, produced by CGRoyals
Hi ,I have a beautiful 2014 female produced by CGRoyals. I am looking for more understanding about her because she has a 20% scale less head and a beautiful pattern and colors.I have many ball pythons, most from Rudy, so I know how to care for them but I know nothing about scale less heads or that it was a big deal until someone else seen her and offered me a couple hundred dollars for her, I thought she was a pretty normal! ,and the missing scales were a defect not something special! I did talk to Rudy and he suggested I ask the community's opinion, so what is your thoughts guys!

The picture makes it look as though there was a shedding issue because there is a noticeable depth from where the scales are to the area without scales. It just doesn't look like the pictures I've seen. Can you tell us more about her though so we can better reply. I'm not even sure I know what you are asking. If you were to purchase a scaleless head I think the price tag would've told you that it wasn't a normal. If you do a search on this forum you can find a ton of good information regarding scaleless head ball pythons and a link to a very long but interesting article, if you have trouble finding it then I could do the search for you and post it. Did the snake look like that when you brought it home? How old is it?

the scaleless project:
However, yours does not look like any scaleless head I have seen. Really does look like something bad happened to her. but with all the buzz with the scaleless project right now, I would defiantly be breeding her when she is ready. Just wouldn't be expecting anything, but nothing wrong with hoping.

I know that nothing has happened to her since I have had her, and I trust anything Rudy says when it comes to ball pythons.I am no breeder so if she gets breed it would be by him, I wouldn't want to hurt her, she is awesome for exactly what she is. I was happy with her just the way she was.She is a couple months old and has looked like that from the second I took her out the box and held her for the first time. She has never been injured in my care, and I strongly doubt she was injured in his care. All temps and husbandry are exactly the way they should be, her health and eating are excellent. She does have issues shedding her head but nothing a short bath can not handle.I have looked at a few things and the only other possibility is incubation issues. I have no clue about genetics, maybe a basic understanding but no where in the realm that would have me calming to be an expert, but I do know that time after time a small thing has been proved out and who knows, she is my little pet but maybe she can be something great for Rudy.I have seen scale less head animals and with them I would have never known that they were special if I was not told.Other more experienced people said things to me about her, some tried to buy her but she is my pet/friend, so I decided to call Rudy, who said to bring her here to you guys and get your thoughts. She will be the same to me no matter what, but I do hope she is more because if she is by buddy has Mom and Dad and would love to she someone who is such a great breeder and friend have a break through like that!

I've seen this many times, either from shedding, or the recent fad of losers pulling scales off ball pythons head to resemble scaleless heads. This is so vastly different from a scaleless head that this discussion is not only upsetting, but it gives more of those losers the idea of pulling scales off ball pythons heads to try and trick people into buying them. There is MANY more traits for scaleless heads than this animal has. Like I said, I've seen this many times, typically not as precise location as this animal, which is even more upsetting for me. This animal looks like it was purposely damaged. I can't prove that, but given the generalized location and I can see the "commitment" to the appearance in trying to get those scales off. Richiquick, I notice your Avatar is a scaleless head ball python. The animal you have is 100% NOT that. I'm seeing this pop up more and more, and it saddens be that people are intentionally pulling off scales. To the OP, I'm not accusing you of doing that, but when I say this is 100% not a scaleless head, and you continue to pump it up as if it is, makes me wonder. Please drop it and leave this as an example of what a ball python's head looks like that has had it's scales pulled off. OK???
