Under age breeding??
So theres a rule of thumb iv heard people say reguarding the correct age a female can be ready to breed.. im new to royals and have a female who is packing on the size and weight at a good steady pace.. id love to attempt to breed her as i have a proven male breeder ready to pair with..
Altho shes only early CB13 and if she makes the weight and is healthy ect.. whats your opinons on this breeding under 2 year old senario??
Advice and experiance needed plz and thanks

2 years is fine. To try to end the great debate that may take place here before it starts, Kevin McCurley mentions in his first book that 1 year and 1,000g is the minimum threshold to breed a female. I've seen no claims substantiated that a female was able to get pregnant and go full term under conditions that would make her more likely to become egg bound or have higher chances of complications than a different age or weight.

Re: Under age breeding??
The earliest I breed females is 18 months and at least 1500 grams.
I also breed lower weight females however they are older.
This is not a race take your time.

^ is true
My rule of thumb is min 2years and 1300-1500 grams (pre building)
My lesser girl at 1400 gave 5 nice eggs (only 1 didnt make it)
She was a late 2011 so she barley broke the 2 years. If you go to 3 yrs 2000+ You often will get a bigger clutch! But theres nothing wrong with 2 years and proper weight... Remember its NOT up to us, Shell go when shes ready to go!!

Re: Under age breeding??
Well my boyfriends albino. She was almost 3,000g and we wait 3 years and she had 8 eggs. Not a crazy difference to my Mojave that was 1,400g 3 years old. She had 6 eggs. Of course her eggs were much smaller in size. But I don't think size will guarantee a bigger clutch.

Re: Under age breeding??
Come breeding season she should be over the 18month age if my rough calculations are correct... when breeding what signs symtoms does a female have/display to establish if "shes ready"

Re: Under age breeding??
If shes "ready", shell take...
If shes not, she wont...
Everyrhing i read when i first started breeding said 1200 minimum. U can try at that size and all u can do is hope for the best

I know someone who successfully bred a Mouse eater Cinnamon clown. (she was only 1150g) That being said, she will have to now wait out the upcomming breeding season to put weight on!

If she's ready, her body will start producing follicles. You'll know because you'll either be able to palpate them or she will suddenly become VERY food aggressive and start taking as many meals as you put in front of her.

One of my girls is just over 2 and good body size. How can you palpate for follicles?
