    Feeding advice

Hey everyone, need some advice with my 10 month old girl. We've had her for for 8 months now and she's doing very well but I'm struggling on keeping her weight up. I started out feeding one live adult mouse every 7 days, few months went by and I switched her to FT weanling rats. I noticed her gaining a lot of length without much girth so I moved her up to every 5 days. Couple more months went by and on to small rats. She has Only refused to eat 2 times over the 8 months I've had her but she is still very thin. I don't have a scale to give her weight but she's 45 inches long already. Is it safe to assume that she will thicken up once she slows growing in length?

She had her first medium rat tonight but I stressed the whole time because her head just seems so small for such large food. She handled it just fine although it took longer but maybe my inexperience with BP's is showing. Her cage is spot on for temps and humidity and she's a friendly active girl.

Any advice or am I being overly concerned.

Weight would really help to determine. You can get a scale at Walmart for around $35. You can get cheaper, but go ahead and get a good one.
As far as your BP's size it sounds about right. I have a 7 month old that is around 36" and as of tonight she has an empty weight of 773 grams. I feed her a small rat (80-90 grams) every 7 days. She will eat every 5 days, but I don't want to build her up too fast. I would say a medium rat would be a large meal for a 10 month old, but weight and size would be the deciding factor.

I'll work on getting a scale if that can help determine how she's doing. Will post once I have it.

    Thanks
