This is the way to go. You just have to make 100% sure that it's organic, as you said, and has nothing but cypress in it. That's why I pay extra for the zoomed stuff--I know I can't make a mistake and buy the wrong bag.
You buy the home depot stuff and dont worry about mites. I wasthinking of doing something similar bit dunping it in a giant trash can and treating it with mite spray first but havent made that call yet.

You could. I do keep mite spray around. I have never pulled the trigger on the mite spray once. Wood mites are not that big a deal. They aren't like snake mites. The spray would kill them off though. When my wife bought her first Ball python we bought some aspen bedding from Petsmart and it was terribly over run with mites. They gave us our money back and we have been using organic cypress since.
