today may be the day!
Not too long ago I acquired a nice hypo honduran milk snake. Needless to say ATM he is quarantined. However, before I got this free "foster child" I had my eyes set on a particular red tail boa at a pet store. While I am very distrusting of most pet stores, especially commercial ones, I am fairly cool with the manager, who works primarily with reptiles, and at that, snakes are her favorite. The baby corn I had purchased from the store came in wonderful health, was/is a great eater, and has never given me problems. Yet, even with this, I am still a bit skeptical, so I went to check on the boa a few different times; having it taken out, handled it, asked about feeding records, etc. And after keeping track of this baby for a bit, I'm thinking of buying it!
Of course, I research the crap out of husbandry and common feeding problems, discussed a new addition with the girlfriend, and we are highly thinking of restarting the quarantine process and getting a new snake!
Now, I am interested in things that simple care doesn't cover. Any good anecdotal reports on these interesting snakes? I have heard and noticed they seem more alert/interactive than my other snakes. I have even seen stories of a fair amount of boas that will cruise around the cage, following their owner, until they take them out for some interaction!
I'm really looking forward to this. Years down the road I really want a burm or perhaps a dwarf retic, but I want a few years handling the "smaller" guys before moving on to the monster-sized snakes. Not that this purchase is simply a stepping stone, but I think it should help prepare me for down the road.
So please,
Gloat about your babies and tell me interesting stories!
