    Snake sitting

Well my snake collection just doubled but only temporarily for the summer. A friend of my wife is a Montessori teacher and is away taking classes and needed someone to watch them. They are the class pets. The hognose is named miss piggy and the king is rex. I was told the king is a cali but i dont know.

Good for you for taking them in temporarily! Glad to see you're doing quarantine. I don't know much about kings but I question that one as well the white banding doesn't look so... white. But, what do I know!

Good luck with them. I hope you don't end up keeping them forever, like sometimes happens when friends go away. Although, if you did, that wouldn't be so bad maybe. Lol!

    All the best!

    Re: Snake sitting

Hopefully it will pay off by making it easier to get a few more of my own and the wife going for it. Lol

The owner says the king is a cali but i think it might me a florida but i am not sure. I do know he likes hissing at me lol. But he stops when he is picked up and has not tried to strike.

If anyone has an idea what the king is let me know, thanks

I just Googled Florida king snake and California king snake... out of the two, I think you are correct, or at least the closest in being correct!

    Re: Snake sitting

Yea i hit google up first even though i know the cali has that black and white pattern. So i thought maybe is was a morph but after looking around it did not seem so.

    Re: Snake sitting

So now i have been told he is a splendida/ desert king or a hybrid. He matches to that better than even the florida.

    Re: Snake sitting

Very cool. Definitely an interesting snake. My unsolicited thoughts:

    1. Belly pattern looks king
    2. Dorsal pattern doesn't look like either to me
    3. Are Brooks and Florida kings the same or similar?
    4. Could it be chance breeding and getting a variation of Brooksi morphs mixed with another snake?
    5. Wilomn and a couple other guys would know better.

He is a king but just curious as to what kind for " just in case purposes" since I am snake sitting. It was suggested he could even be a hybrid of a cali and a desert but that there is no real way to tell. I guess that may be the splendida they are talking about. i have not got a chance to look that up much today.

a brooks is a subspecies of the florida king as far as I know.
He has been fun to watch after.

    Re: Snake sitting
