When we got a new rabbit friend for our first bunny she had babies and one of them was born like this. By the time we find out she had babies(we didn't even know she was pregnant) it had already died.

Edit: both rabbits were female, the new one was just pregnant when we got her.

Dunno if it was born that way or got injured, but definitely put it down if you haven't.. And maybe ask a moderator to put a warning on the title too.

Wow! That's crazy!
When I saw this thread I thought for sure he would die if you didn't do it yourself, but he looks to be healthy other than that.

I have had a couple like that. Usually from females fighting over the litter.

To me, after 2 weeks, it doesn't look like it's closed up at all, just that the rat got bigger so the hole looks smaller...

He looks fat and healthy otherwise. If he's just going to be a meal for something in a few weeks I say let it go...don't worry about it. I do believe that was from an adult rat biting or playing tug of war with the baby. I don't believe that is a birth defect. I had one of a rat once that wasn't quite that bad. He was a black self and het for dumbo, so I kept him as a breeder and my wife at the time named him Harry (like Harry Potter for the big scar on his head).
