    Natural Wood Hides

Is it okay to use wood hides? My concern is that it might develop mold or bacteria that could affect the health of the bp.

Personally, I would just seal them. You could use them as is (if you find them outside then be sure to sterilize them by baking), but if they get icky, then it's time to throw them out. I suppose another option could be to wash them and re-bake periodically, to kill any bacteria or mold.

I use wood hides and mopani wood as decor. Just keep an eye out for mold growth. You can toss it in the oven for a bit to cure that. Put it in the oven on 250 for about 20-30 minutes.

Yes, that's what I was suggesting. the only thing is that you must wait quite a while for it to fully cure. There can't be any detectable smell. In my experience with water based sealants it takes about a week. I imagine it's a lot longer with polyurethane, but I haven't used it. I think maybe the periodic baking is probably your best bet.
