Ball python has become lethargic, worried

I have the digital thermometer on the substrate itself, and I check just by feeling it as well, making sure it is warm but not hot. I am very sensitive to heat, so until we can afford to buy a better thermometer or thermostat, this is all I can do.

And I doubt that the temps are causing this problem, since they have been the same for months, with no problems.

Feeling the heat yourself is no way to measure it. This is NOT ACCURATE, regardless of how sensitive to heat you are. As I've mentioned, our skin is already warmer than their hot spot of 90F.
The thermometer should be at the bottom of the vive, on the hottest part of the tank and the hottest part where your snake can reach - they can and do burrow or move substrate out of the way, exposing them to the hottest temperatures,

I don't believe anyone has been suggesting temps are causing a "problem" of your snake to hide - which isn't actually a problem at all. What we are addressing is a habitat issue, which needs to be corrected in my opinion. I've told you about the Jumpstart thermostats BECAUSE they are inexpensive and work well - I use them myself.

I strongly suggest you fix it before it becomes an even bigger problem. If you don't think it will, then I urge you to search "burnt snake" on this forum, or Google images. Hopefully that will change your mind.
