    Scales falling off

A little over a month ago my ball Lucy had a pink belly and at one small spot on her belly she was bleeding under a scale. I took her to someone who graduated college studying.. Whatever it's called to study reptiles. Told me to get Neosporin without pain relief, and anti fungal cream, and to keep applying daily till it goes away. Well after a week and a half it finally seemed better, with the help of a shed as well. But as of yesterday picked her up and her belly is a little pink. Now I've applied the Neosporin again and anti fungal but the more concerning part was that her scales are falling off on the bottom of her and the bottom sides. A lot of the bottom scales and bottom side scales are sort of bent backwards. When I say the scales are falling off, I mean they come off as translucent plastic looking pieces one at a time and they do not leave a bare discolored area where it used to be. She shed two weeks ago and they shed seemed fine.

One more thing, I have never seen her do this, but since putting on the anti fungal and Neosporin, she seems to be doing her absolute best to rub it off on everything that's he can in her enclosure. Almost like how balls rub against things to remove a shed. And she's moving much faster than usual doing so. And for the only time seems absolutely desperate to escape... Which she's never done.

Any help would be appreciated. Her behavior has not changed besides her speediness to rub off the ointment and determination on escaping her enclosure. I did a deep clean about 2 and a half weeks ago and there's been a clean towel down on the bottom. Just replaced it with a new one this morning.

Also now that I think of it I don't think she's pooped for a month. She's peed but that's all.

That's what I would think too, but this today is the very first time she's ever tried to rub off what I put on her in such an aggressive way. Her scales where falling off before I began to put the ointment on her again

With a daily use of neosporin and anti fungal cream I am not surprised that scales are falling off. Oil based cream will loosen up scales.

I am curious what was the "expert" diagnosis? How much hands on experience does he have?

one small spot on her belly she was bleeding under a scale
From this description the proper course of action would have been, cleaning the area, applying neosporin once and let it be until next shed and even that was probably unnecessary. Other thing to do would have been to replace the substrate with newspaper or paper towel and keep it clip and dry.

    Re: Scales falling off

When my snakes have had an injured scale, I've used that Zoo Med Repti-Wound stuff with great results.

Once, though, my oldest girl got stuck in an earring and experienced some stress to her scales, which resulted in her losing scales much like you are describing. I hauled her butt into the vet where she was treated with an anti- inflammatory and an anti- biotic. I do not screw around...she healed right away and has just a small scar that has diminished with each shed.

I always say, check with a vet.

Your herpetology graduate doesn't seem to know that Neosporin will destroy their scales if used regularly.

There in lies the difference between education and knowledge...

Might want to create your own thread rather then hijacking one with a complete different topic?
