I love people like you. <3 Sometimes I think it's just me that's losing my give-a-squat as I get older, then I regain my faith in humanity with posts like yours.
My dad's coming over this summer. He'll never know that the spare bedroom next to the one he'll be staying in is literally crawling with snakes. Heh heh. Thankfully the rats will be outside by then though. He's a Vietnam vet, and rodents touch off flashbacks for him.

my family doesnt care... except my dad I havent told him yet.
My mom is scared of them though.
Im narcoleptic so my first two days i had the snake I passed out holding it lol.
The second time my mom came in the room and I woke up (i pass out for like 25 30minutes) and I was tweeking looking for her.
But since I was out of it from just waking up I was looking all around the room going crazy.
But luckily she stayed right next to me both times and was just watching me go all around the room looking for her hahaha

UGH!
My mom sends me passive-aggressive "articles" on how pythons are murderous creatures and that my girls will escape and kill my whole family.
I'm still trying to figure out exactly how my BPs will manage this...
My dad will at least talk to me a bit about my snakes, and my bro is totally cool...but yeah, my mom HATES them. I've tried educating her, but she thinks that I'm the uneducated one! And that the media NEVER blows anything out of proportion. It's so bad that we actually bought a new house last year...our first house...and my parents STILL haven't seen it in person.
It's sooooo frustrating.

Reading some of these and I feel so lucky?
My friends are all fine with it and love handling them for the most part.
My family is the same pretty much. My mother doesnt like the whole feeding aspect but offered to loan me $100+ for vet bills when my blood python became ill, and they always atleast pretend to be interested in them when we meet up. Often I send pics of them to my mom and she will ask about them and reply with dog/cat pictures. They hope i wont get more, but know i will and i know they will always be supportive

My family hates them, my girlfriends family loves them
My family hates even seeing them or hearing about them, her family loves holding them and seeing pics.
My brother doesnt mind them much anymore, his girlfriend hates them to the point we don't bring them out of our room in our shared apartment, no quick soaks in the tub, and have to sneak around mostly if we need a pot to boil water for rats...
It sucks.

Re: Reaction from friends and family
My wife tolerates the family bp but says the the bp is going with our son when he goes to college. Wifey will hold the bp but is still not all that crazy about the snake even though she was the one who suggested it on a whim while at the pet store. I am working on getting her to be more interested so I can get a "few" more. My side of the family is only my father and he really does not care one way or the other probably because I grew up catching wild snakes. My father would every once in a while catch corns to use to scare his friends that did not like snakes when I was young. My mother in law likes the bp and will hold her. The father in law would probably like the bp if he came over more often but his wife does not like any snake.
I have Few friends that don't care for having any snake. Most friends that come over are interested but I doubt most would want to have one of their own.

In my experience, my friends tend to stay away from her, but it has been nice having such a chill snake, i had a few friends that were scared of snakes i had them come over and i just handled her to show them theres nothing to be afraid of. soon enough a few of them were handling her. my wife loves her also. but when ever i tell someone i have a snake they always ask why? then i always ask why do you have a dog? or a cat?. my family has taken an interest in her. my parents will sometimes just watch in fasanation when she's out.

i can so relate to what you wrote, except my mom passed away a few months ago, but if she were still here, I believe she would love them
The rest of my family and friends pretty much have the same opinion as yours. My sister even sent me the link to the African rock python who killed two young boys in New Brunswick, Canada. Although that was terrible, sad news, I tried to explain to her that there are many subspecies of pythons not one type in general and African rocks are not only illegal in Canada but are completely different then a ball python.
My daughter is trying to be supportive, but has concerns that my snakes may escape and smother her baby if she were to spend the night at our house. I tried to explain there are more chances of her in-laws cat smothering her baby then the snakes and the cat scenario is extremely unlikely. I believe it's lack of education and understanding of these beautiful creatures, that generates such fears.
But I'm a grown woman and now that I have snakes, I'm so very addicted! I have always loved snakes as a child growing up, and finally I can have my own! I still take precautions, make sure the tanks are locked and secured but that is also for my snakes protection as well.

Re: Reaction from friends and family
Yeah, I basically tell them, I'm a grown woman with two kids and my own business (the snakes are even part of that), I think I can handle this!
And I take precautions too, locking cages. I let my two little girls pretty much hold my youngest snake without issue (she's super laid back and doesn't grip very tightly), but they know with my eldest, I need to be holding her while they pet her (she's strong and very skittish). But my kids are growing up with a respect for snakes, not some blind fear.
Love my snakes...I must, I'm getting a third on Tuesday if the weather holds! Haha! My mom is never gonna visit...
