    Silicone and tank

Can someone tell me what kind or if i can use silicone at to fill in cracks on the bottlom of my tank? And also would it be a good idea to silicone the probe for the hydrafarm temp controller to the glass on bottom under aspen bedding? Just because my guys keep climbing on them and sometimes they pull it out to the surface so i re place it back. And i obviously wouldnt silicone the actual probe its self, but the cord to secure the probe down..

    thanks in advance

    Re: Silicone and tank

Regular aquarium silicone will do just fine. If it's a huge crack and you need to do most of the tank or whatnot, there is a silicone Lowes/home depot sells which is safe to use. Had to redo the seems and corners of my 125gal aquarium. I can find out what it is when I get home. Make sure you give it 48 hours before putting the animal back in the tank. It think I've seen people use silicone for the temp probe, also hot glue or suction cups.

I use a small amount of hot glue close to the probe and it stays in place perfectly until I decide to do a full cleaning and I can rip it off easily

    Thanks alot guys!
i think i still have a few little suction cups that came with my thermometer and gygrometers, so ill give those a try, and if not ill do the dab of hot glue. As for silicone, i dont know if they sell a non chemical one or if silicone would effect the snake?

regular silicone (for windows/bathroom) contains fungicides to keep the silicone from getting moldy, i dont know how harmful these are but people avoid them.

aquarium silicone is just fine. if its fine for fish that swim in water which is in contact with the silicone 24/7, then its fine for reptiles as well.

BTW the strong smell of silicone as it dries, thats acetic acid, basically concentrated vinegar. its safe once that smell is gone.
