Re: Some quick tank questions
Any recommendations of a temp gun?

All good advice!
Just want to say I think it looks like a nice setup.
If your ball python is a burrower, the substrate might be okay. In general though it sounds like all are in agreement that it could be cut down a bit. That being said, you will also save money and resources this way.
P.S.
Is that the Hidey Log from Hell!? (ie. PetSmart)??
If it is the one I'm thinking of... be careful! I have seen a few too many snakes get stuck in there, or owners freaking out because they can't find their snakes and it's such a good hiding spot!

This is the one I've been using for about 5 years, I think. There are some that are less expensive, and some that have more bells and whistles, but this one has never let me down:

They come in a wide range of prices:

Re: Some quick tank questions
I planned on changing out his substrate and everything this weekend, so it's safe to say that I could cut back on my substrate height and get a temp gun?

Re: Some quick tank questions
You want to put the probe near the top of the substrate, so it captures the heat of the ground the snake will be touching. What is your substrate? That may take an affect. Ps make sure the probe is not sitting on top. Just near the top.

I think I get what you mean but I'll take a picture of what I did
