I think you'll be fine with the Fireplace, if they are not in the same room as it, it could be helpful to do that. I had a Fireplace for a few years and It was niiiice.
Also, my friend had a Lizard, when they lost power they boiled water and put in bottles around the tank, and when cooled down enough they put it inside the tank. Don't know how it worked, but they did that.
Why cant you have your snake in the same room as a fireplace every room in my house has one including my room where my guy is kept and I have no problem with him

Woke up to another inch or two of snow this am. Power is still on, thank god. It looks like one more small snow shower then it will clear up. Supposed to be windy today. Hopefully the trees can hold it together

I kinda feel the same way, I have family in North Carolina and they freak out every time they get a coating. Granted we don't often get too much snow here in NJ but a foot at a time isn't unusual, and we've had storms where we get 3 feet of snow. We had an ice storm a few days ago that knocked out power for a lot of people in the area, though. I think the southern states just don't have the supplies and equipment (plows, salt, etc.) to deal with winter weather. It's snowed every few days for months here... ugh.
This same storm is about halfway through my area and we have about a foot of snow now. We still have power, but there's sleet and freezing rain on the way...
We have a generator to keep a fridge and electric "fireplace" going for a while.

When I was stationed in Virginia we regularly had one type of event or another that caused us to lose power. I developed an emergency kit that came in handy on more than one occasion. I even used it when I had to bug out of my apartment and move into a hotel room for a few days due to a fire in an adjacent building.
1) Iris MCB-L tub with lid - vent holes pre-cut
2) Several 40 Hour heat packs (think I got them from RBI?)
3) Snake bag for each animal I owned
4) Binder clips to secure the tub's lid
5) Small fleece blanket for packing material
6) Duct tape...because duct tape makes everything better
When I had a power outage, each of the kids would go in a separate bag, the bags would go in the bin, and I would duct tape heat packs to the outside of the bin. Used my infrared temp gun to monitor the temps inside the tub. Great thing about this set up was that I could have it packed and ready to roll in 5 minutes. I'm sure I did it in a lot less than that the night of the fire.

Re: ice storm
We dodged a bullet with this one. The sun came out at 11am and almost all the snow was melted by dark.
luckily no power outage at my house. Just fed both the snakes, all is good!
i think the news pumped this storm up a bit. Maybe trying to get people to stay at home to avoid a traffic disaster like a couple weeks ago.
