A lot of people suggest getting females incase you decide to breed in the future. If you are just looking for a pet, I suggest a male. They tend to not get as large, they are less expensive, and since females are more valued in this hobby (for breeding purposes) there are lots of males that need homes too!
I got my male pinstripe as a hatchling about 2 months old for $80 at a show. I love going to shows, because there are so many to choose from and sometimes you change your mind that can be good or bad!
Best of luck

Don't let anyone, ever, make you feel like you don't deserve what you want. - Heath Ledger
I don't have any immediate plans but I do intend to breed my bps at some point far off in the future.
Deserts look great as a pet .. the males will break but all desert females throw slugs and thats it .. so if u ever breed ur desert male all the desert females that come from that clutch will not reproduce
