Pitiful Shedding boy

Is it just me or do our scaled babies look terribly pitiful when they have eye caps for shedding? I went to check on my little guy and he looks so scared and afraid with his eye caps. Of course, all my pets are my children, my 2 cats, 2 ferrets, 1 small dog, 2 lovebirds, and my newest addition, our snake temu... and yes, we are starting a mini zoo in our house. lol

AND! and.. since he has the eye caps we didnt feed him, it makes me feel like a horrible herp-mommy... even though I know that it wont hurt him to not eat this week...

Have you ever tried feeding him during his shed? Most of them will still eat but you're right, it won't kill em to skip a meal.

this is our first shed with him and the breeder i got him from said that in the past he was hit and miss on eatting during his sheds and I didnt want to chance him not eatting and possibly getting hurt from the rat OR having to keep a nasty little rat alive for a week in my house ( no offense to anyone who has them as pets, more power to you)

Once I see my guys go blue,I don't feed them til they have shed 100%.

It it can be dangerous enough feeding live in general,to feed while in blue is just a stupid thing to do,IMO

I can say anything I want and not have people get irritated as long as I put IMO at the end IMO

OP It will hurt absolutely nothing to skip a meal if you dont want to feed him when he is in shed but if you ever feel like trying there is nothing to worry about. My big worry when I first got into ball pythons was that I would feed a snake in blue to big of a meal and then when they went to shed that it would get stuck around the lump from the food. Then I realized after seeing a few sheds that they where sooo much bigger than the snake that it would not matter LOL

I've tried before and there strikes are poor,while they strike it's never at the face or neck like they do,it winds up being mid body and that leaves them open for bites to be clawed at ,especially dangerous for the eyes. I prefer to skip them in shed,especially when blue . If you feed regularly and they are well fed,then you are better off being safe than sorry. IMO. One skipped meal will do them fine. I mean they can go months and months on need without eating,so I don't get why ppl stress not feeding them when I shed u can just feed me after they shed,it's no big deal

We decided to not even try. Poor guy is hiding in his hide and is 1000% not interested in moving. His humidity was a little low so I adjusted it and he is on track for a beautiful shed.

If the snake is in pink or pre-blue, I'll still offer, but after that point, I don't. Not while they're in blue because they can't see and after that because they can have trouble shedding (getting the skin past the bulge from their prey). Some snakes are not interested at all in eating from the moment they start to darken up (pre-pink, I'm crazy good at spotting incoming sheds before even their bellies turn pink) while others don't care and would eat while deep in blue if I let them.

So I check the little guy this morning as per normal routine and his caps have come off, so he doesnt look AS sad now... just kinda iggy when I took his hide off to look in on him... no striking or pulling back just roaming alot.
