How long does it take Babies to like people?

My first BP is extremely shy. He's about 5 months old now and weights about 150 grams. He never comes out during the day! Hides all day and explores nightly when its gets dark. As soon as I carefully pick him up he balls up and never unwinds! He'll sit balled up for a half hour. Even after I am done handling him he will stay balled up in his cage for a while afterwards. He is very healthy and regularly eats F/T rat pups. Should I just keep him out and wait for him to unwind? He hasn't really wanted to climb up my arm. He just sits balls up on my hand.

It all depends on how secure you can make him feel. If he balls up, just hold him in your hands. As long as he senses your presence, just be sure to hold him securely. Eventually he'll realize that there's nothing to be afraid of. Just don't make any sudden, fast, or jerky movements, and he'll enjoy the ride. It also helps to sit in front of a space heater while handling him so he can stay nice and warm. The more comfortable you can make him feel while being held, the more he won't mind it as much.

Just keep handling him for short amounts of time a couple of times a week and he'll get used to you. It takes time.

It's funny because when I picked him he was the only super pastel which I wanted. But the other morphs were more friendly. Hopefully he wont be shy from birth.

Is it ok to put him say on a table like while watching tv? He can explore and see me but not be handled.

Just experiment! Seriously though, make him feel as safe as possible. Once they know nothing bad is going to happen to them, then they will begin to explore the place.

Re: How long does it take Babies to like people?

All BPs are shy from birth. Some are just shy more than others. I used to put my little ones on my lap while watching tv and let them do their thing. Just make sure he doesn't get too cold.
