They may not be top notch animals, but I think they're both beautiful.

Feast your eyes on all 1700 grams of Mocha!!! And let's face it, the fact that a pastel is named "Mocha" should tell you something from the start.......

I have a quite browned out 0.1 Pastel that has produced some great looking hatchlings. Just because they are browned out does not mean the offspring will take that on.

I know I'm not the only one who feels that way and I just wanted to present another side to the argument.

I don't think a thread like this even warrants an argument. It's more of a "if you like, post; if not, go find something better to do" thread.

I know the op is just trying to have some fun. But let's just say having a really browned out pastel *usually* isn't something most people are proud of....

Wow. An animal lover who claims that a healthy 'lower grade' animal isn't something to be proud of. And here I am, glad and appreciative just to have two normals.

Satomi and I are presenting the side of the argument of the breeder...not the pet owner.


As a pet owner, go for it! Be proud of your animals. All animals are beautiful whether they are browned out pastels or normals. My normals in my collection are some if my favorite animals. However, as a breeder, having browned out pastels is not something to be proud of. The goal is to enhance the morph by breeding quality animals. You can't achieve that by breeding low quality, browned out animals.

I think this thread is great for showing pet animals, but not breeder quality animals. There's a complete distinction and I don't think you see that or feel like we acknowledge it. However, we do. We're saying breeder animals shouldn't be here.

People were wondering why the thread took a while to get started and we gave a truthful answer.

Health has nothing to do with this thread. Having a healthy animal is absolutely great no matter what. But this isn't a 'who has the healthiest pastel thread'. Its a 'who has the most browned out pastel'.

And personally, I interpreted that this is a thread that is basically saying 'who has the *least* physically attractive pastel'. And while it was made for fun, I don't find winning that title to be very positive, imo.


Maybe you don't share the notion, but I would not be proud to have my animals labeled as essentially 'ugly'. Especially when I strive my hardest to breed, keep, and obtain the best examples I could find that would make me proud to have in my collection. So them being labeled as 'physically unattractive' would be downright insulting/offensive/shameful/whatever.
