Help on rack system & thermostat!!!

Okay so my parents just told me that when I turn 18 (in one month) and start working for a family friend that I can start buying snakes!!! I don't want to spend too much money on a rack so I found a rack made by a company called plano https://www.google.com/#q=plano+rack . I am thinking about using this because I watched a video of somebody building it and using it for his ball pythons... BUT what I really need help with is when I do purchase this and buy heat tape what thermostat should I purchase to use the heat tape with? I just finished watching a video on how to set up the heat tape and the thermostat they used looked kind of cheap, any help? Also if you have any other suggestions on a cheap rack that I could buy or make for less than $200 please let me know!

Definitely dont skimp on the thermostat. You want to buy something that holds temps well and that you dont have to worry about. I recommend herpstats as thats what I use. But I have had a lot of success with helix and Vivarium Electronics. Make sure its a proportional thermostat and not an on/off type.

Building your own melamine rack would be tge cheapest. Other than check out aninal plastics econony racks amd the racks at reptile basics.

C Serpents has the cheapest best quality racks the smaller racks are under $200 but even the ones over $200 are well worth the money. They come with heating, and tubs already assembled completely for you. So all you have to do is take it out of the box and plug it up to a thermostat. Hope this is helpful.

It fluctuates too much. At least the cheaper ones do. The proportional tstat will stay a nice constant temp.

Those snake racks will work, as I had a friend build one like that. Just remember that the room they are in will need to get no colder than 75 degrees. I also recommend using foam board to cover 3 sides of it, if you decide to go that way.

I'm picking up a rack from http://dragons4you.com this weekend at Repticon Orlando. You can save a lot on shipping if you're able to pick up a rack locally at a reptile show. I'll be using a Vivarium Electronics VE-300 thermostat with it that I ordered from http://reptilebasics.com . You should check out the resources section of their site, they have some great FAQs about thermostats and heat tape.

Initially I considered building my own rack, but after adding up the cost of materials and the amount of time I would spend making something that would ultimately be inferior to a rack made by an experienced professional, I decided that it would make more sense to just buy one instead.
