Is it ok to use wood chips from home depot or menards as long as it not cedar right. is cypress mulch ok pine bark :?:

Definitely not pine bark. It's the bark of pine that contains the highest concentrations of the oils that are toxic to reptiles and rodents.

As for the rest, I'm really not sure. I've never looked into it. Hopefully someone else has a more experienced answer.

Also check it out for any sort of insects - you'd be surprised how many most of that stuff contains. A good idea would be to boil or bake before using I'd imagine, as the last thing you want to deal with is any sort of insect problem. And yeah stay away from cedar and pine for sure.

why were you even thinking about home depot? Bark is cheap wherever you go.

Ya - a lot of non-acidic stuff (like sphagnum) can contain pretty brutal spore counts as well. Where we use bark we use that Forest Bark stuff.

I use the bark that you buy from pet stores. It's pretty and non-toxic so it wont be a problem if they swallow anything.
