I think these are silk rats?

So compared to my standard and rex coats, I have two different kinds of "shiny" rats.
Here's the first female(Single Rex black Berk):

And this is another female which is what the above female looked like when she was younger..

And then this is the other shiny coat in agouti Berks (All Single Rex):

I'm not familiar with anything called "silk", do you mean satin? What do their whiskers look like? Satin have funky whiskers, not exactly curly like a rex, but kind of wild.
Why keep a snake? Why keep any animal? Because you enjoy the animal, find something beautiful and fascinating about it, and it fits seamlessly into your lifestyle.

Here's an article about satin rats. Has some close-up pictures showing the whiskers.

I had some rats in my litters that looked exactly like that and without the crazy satin whiskers. I never really found out what it was from but didn't put a breeding project on it either.

Re: I think these are silk rats?

Silk or Silky is an Australian variety. We don't have them in the states. We do have Satin, but these guys don't really look Satin. Too much protein can sometimes make them look a little greasy.

    Adult Satin.

The brown rat in the first picture is the only one that looks rex. You say "single rex black berk" but that rat is not a rex. Rex rats have very curly whiskers - a few of the animals labelled as rex have perfectly straight normal whiskers

Re: I think these are silk rats?

What do those babies that you have labeled as Single Rex look like now? They don't look Rex to me either. Velveteens (a Rexoid) have wavy (instead of curly whiskers), but their coats are usually more wavy/curly at that age. Satin can be almost impossible to tell apart from standard at a young age (besides the slightly wavy whiskers and longer hair). If they don't look Rexoid now, they could indeed be Satin. Satin is a recessive coat type. It's not very uncommon, it's just usually misidentified.

    Velveteen Whiskers.

Oh my...questions.... The rex male in the first pic is the father to all the babies including the adult black berk, with the exception of the dumbo black berk(standard coat) being compared to the agouti baby. They are all varying degrees of rex which he is not a very curly one himself.

these are up to date pics, so they are not older. This is the only agouti i kept from this litter.

3 different litters, same rex male father

Okay, the dumbo black berk next to 2 standard coat hoodeds and a mismarked rex
