    Opinions on Red Bulbs

    Hey everyone

I just recently read a comment someone had posted about light bothering snakes. I understand that day light "bothers" them, as they are nocturnal - well, crepuscular - but what about red light?
From what I have researched, I do not believe that every snake canNOT see red at all, but I don't know as such with ball pythons.

To keep the ambiet air temperature up in Beau's tank I have a 50W red bulb (15 gal tank), which keeps the air a steady 80-81F. Of course I also have a UTH with thermostat, which usually stays between 86.5-91.5F.

I am just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the red bulbs. I prefer them so that I can see Beau out cruising at night, and he always sits perched on his branch directly under it every night. I am just wondering if he gets stressed by it at all (no visible signs) or will become stressed by it in the future.
Do you think total darkness would benefit him at all?
I also chose the red bulb over a ceramic heat bulb so that I know when it is turned on (which is all the time anyways), and so that I don't accidentally put it on the carpet when I take the lid off and burn my apartment down...

    Thanks in advance!

Red light is fine. They cannot see that kind of light spectrum.
