I'm not sure how wise it would be to put a reptile in that. If it's the one I'm thinking of, you'll need to buy or make a new lid that can lock ( I doubt you'll be able to find a pre-made one). It'd be very difficult to heat properly due to the height. Maybe get a frog? Or fish as it was originally intended to house. Just my .02

Re: new pick up??
the lid is not a problem, my dad is a carpenter, and we looked up some designs for it basically an outline of the hexagon with screen in the middle of it. The lid would work so i do not think that would be a problem. I already have frogs and fish so there wouldn't be a point of putting 1 inch frogs into a 45 gallon tank, thats just a waste of a tank.

Re: new pick up??
Do you have the rough dimensions? And how were you planning on heating it?

I feel like you're definitely going to have to improvise on the lid for that! Maybe with some sturdy locks, or you may have to actualy make one...
I bet you could use a UTH for that tank (regulated with a thermostat of course). Kind of an odd shape for a snake definitely, but I have seen some milk snakes in tall tanks like that. I don't have any milk snakes, and have only read one book on them and a few random pages on the internet, so I could be wrong!
Colubrids usually prefer to dig, as opposed to climb - or so I've been told. My corn snake does both. I have her in a 30 gal. tank with a UTH and mesh lid, and it is over 2 ft tall. She definitely uses all the space!
If you set the tank up right, I think you could find a snake to go in there. I just am not quite sure what...
Maybe look into other kinds of rat snakes (or gophers or that sort of thing) and milk snakes.
Good luck
EDIT: I have a UTH for mine, set at 84F (ranges from 81.5-86F) and when the air is chilly, I have a 50W bulb on stand-by to switch out the 13W day bulb (which I just use for light, not heat at the moment). With a 50W day bulb it heats the ambiet air temp to 78-80F directly underneath it.
I don't think glass tanks and their heating requirements are as difficult to maintain as some people think.
With colubrids that do not need as much humidity, glass is usually not an issue either, I have found.

Re: new pick up??
yes i doo agree with you completely about the heating and humidity control in glass tanks! Somebody else who sees the same way i do. Its just completely personal preference between racks and glass aquariums i feel. I just dont know what snake i can put in there. IF it was very well ventilated.... WHICH ITS NOT!, id put a chameleon in it. but thank you for your input

I'm gonna be that jerk guy that suggests that you shouldn't buy an animal based on owning an empty cage. Find one you like, find out what care it needs, and get the supplies last. If it overlaps with the gear you already have, great.

I agree that you shouldn't get an animal to fit your supplies, but get the supplies to fit an animal. That being said, I can also understand how someone might want a snake but not know which kind to get (of colubrids, for example). I think that happens a lot
Anyways, best of luck with your search (and research)!

Re: new pick up??
I totally agree with you! Ive been wanting a colubrid, but did not have a tank for it. Just do not know what snake i want. Will put updates ip of dimesions, stand forsnt have base on top so a uth would be able to work fine.

Re: new pick up??
its a 35 gallon hex, pretty large. a subadultbp could probably fit in there and possibly a beardy. so im still up for options!
