What substrates are ABSORBENT?
Im in need of an absorbent substrate for my ball python enclosure i like the look of aspen but im not sure if its absorbent

Aspen is quite absorbent, but you have to be careful of leaving it wet or damp for long because it also molds very easily.

cypress works well and holds humidity in too. i use it and i think that it looks better then aspen

yeah cypress mulch works well and it looks very natural. the only downside is that it is a little more costly. if your looking for a natural look than i would use cypress. my next choice would be aspen but as stated before it can mold. coco bedding doesnt mold and it can be misted to keep a higher humidity. do not use cedar, pine or corn husk. these will harm the snake.

I've had great results from cypress mulch as well. Reptibark is another good option.
