    A couple breeding questions

Hello, I've been thinking about getting into breeding my BP and have thought about it for quite some time. However, I still need to pick up a male (I have one female mojave) and with that I have a couple questions.

    1. This is kind of a stupid question, but I have to ask it anyway. How dangerous is it for my female if I were to breed her? I know deaths from laying are pretty rare, but I would be devastated if something were to happen to her. She currently weighs about 1200g and is 2 years old and eats like a monster (if the food is live, she hates f/t lol)

    2. If I were to pick up a male now, after the 60 day quarantine, would it be to late to breed?

    3. With the quarantine, I live in a studio type appartment, so there are no seperate rooms. If I have the two snakes opposite the room from each other, is that ok since a completely different room is not an option?

Across the room is fine, just don't handle the new one and then go over and handle the one you already have.

I have never had a female die on me from breeding, it does happen, but it's very rare.

Breeding season for most is upon us now, so no, it's actually a bit early for many.
But by the time he's out of quarantine you'll be ready to go.
I would start by offering the female more meals to help her gain the extra weight she needs to grow healthy eggs.
This time of year before my females start pairing up I offer meals twice a week if I can, and they happily take them for the most part.

The thing that concerns me with her is that she has always had a slight breathing issue. She always makes a 'whistle' when she exhales heavily and rubs her nose on everything in the cage. I took her into the vet and the vet said he couldnt find anything wrong with her. His best guess was that she either was injured before I got her and her nasal passage is slightly off, creating the whistling noise, or she was born with it. He said that if something were stuck in her nose, it should have become infected by now since she has had this problem the entire 2 years I've had her. As far as I can tell, she still breathes fine, it just bugs her. Do you think this would have any effect on her breeding?

I doubt those are the problem. Her temps range from 88-92 and humidity is usually around 55% except during sheds when I increase it to 65-75%. The temps have dropped in the past to the low 70's for a few days when I was having heating problems and never in the 2 years I have had her has her breathing noise changed in any way. It has always been and according to the vet, always will be. He said he just thinks the nasal passage on one side is smaller then the other and creates a whistling noise. She can feel that theres a difference so she tries to fix the problem by rubbing her nose on stuff. He doesn't believe there is any way to fix the problem without spending unnecessary amounts of $. He said its just best to leave it.

I'm just wonder if this will increase or affect the danger level at all if she breeds.

    Re: A couple breeding questions

Hi, those whistling, head being up, scratching all around the tank seem to be symptom of respiration infection. Check inside her mouth, you may just push her lips down at the side of her head to see are there any bubble looking saliva. A healthy one should look all clean without obvious present of saliva. Maybe a picture with her mouth open can clear all doubts.

    Cheers

I appreciate the concern, but its not an RI lol. She doesnt have her head up all the time and she has no excess saliva or bubbles inside her mouth. She has had an RI in the past about a year ago but it is long since gone. If an RI was what was causing the whistling these 2 years, I don't believe she would still be alive. Two years is pretty crazy for her to have an RI the entire time.
