Re: Desert Pastel?
He is very pretty. I wouldn't breed him but I'd certainly be happy with him as a pet.

The biggest reason is female Deserts can't lay eggs so why bother...95% of the snakes I sell people buy them to breed in the future.

The desert gene is still viable in male snakes, I mean if you hit on all females when you pair desert x whatever then sure it's bad.
It's not as if I don't know the desert gene does that, it's that this is a male and can reproduce.

Just because the males can breed doesn't mean it the best idea...I am not interested in breeding a Desert male to a valuable female I have raised up for years to end up with nothing...Even if you get males they still have no value and are hard to sell...
There are too many Morphs that don't have any issues I would rather breed to my females.
Not trying to turn this into a Desert breeding thread...Just answering you original post "Why?"

I get what your saying, I just respectfully disagree. Maybe one day we can separate desert gene from breeding complications.

I agree with Jon.
Just because it can breed doesn't mean it should breed. It's difficult to find a buyer these days for desert.
I know a breeder who has been trying to sell his desert babies for the past 3 years. (not babies anymore...)
He's had no luck at all and still has all of the original babies he was trying to rehome. I see his local and kingsnake ad all the time with no change.
