BP possible RI?

Ah one of my snakes might of gotten an RI but I'm uncertain, long story short she has been spilling her water and the humidity has been high (I change the aspen as soon as I notice)


the only symptom is occasionally when she breaths it sounds like a whistle or a pfff kind of sound, no popping I pulled her lips down and I don't see any mucous, she shed about 3 weeks ago but I don't see any signs of her going into shed (yet)

temps are 90 warm, 80 cool and humidity is usually at 65 (other than when she spills her water)

any ideas as to if its just her going to shed or if its an RI?


if it is an RI would it be a good idea to put her in the tank I have away from the other snakes?

If I'm unclear I'm asking if what I have described might be an early RI (Respritory infection), and what symptoms should I look out for that might suggest it is an RI?

Any advice is welcomed thanks!

Never had a snake sick with an RI before

I'm really not sure... but I would move the snake even if there's a slight chance it could be RI

Snakes often make noises - especially when they are being held or messed with - that emanate from the glottis and the nares. These are usually the expulsion of breath due to stress.

Occasional situational whistling from the glottis is normal, and is a by-product of the shape of the glottis X the rush of air forced through it.

Ya what skiploder said!! I was worried when I got my second BP. He sis the same thing, he would kinda weeze but only when he was breathing out. But it turned out to just how he would breath when I was holding him. He is one of my more skittish BP's. If no other signs of RI pop up then I wouldn't worry about it.

Sounds very likely, she often hisses when I pull her out of the tub and has stricken at my hand once when I was spot cleaning at the front.

Usually seems very curious and calm once out of her tub but still may be a little stressed out.

Also seems the sound is usually made when breathing out like mentioned above, in quietly then out with a pff kind of sound.

In the earliest stages the signs can be subtle - a slight wheezing sound when breathing, resting in a head-up position against one wall, and yawning more than normal. If she'll relax when you pick her up, you can also try holding her so that your hand is under her lungs, sometimes you can feel a "gurgling" when they breathe. Mainly it's you recognizing that there's something not quite right based on how well you know her. For instance, one of my adult BRB's constantly wheezes, hisses, clicks, puffs, etc. when he breaths, especially if he's exerting himself, and he's done so from the first day I had him. No RI there, but the same symptoms in most of my other snakes would mean a vet trip.

I agree that if you even suspect a problem she should be isolated and monitored.
