Need help making a decision with a project...

Not really sure where this should be put, so yea, here it is. (Sorry to those of you who have seen all these pictures before, but I'm in need of advice >_< )

My first clutch this year was from a dinkery-doo to his daughter, and the results were about 50/50 for the light/bright/reduced patterning.

And the daughter / Dam of the clutch (Note, there were 4 daughters, and none of them really took on his reduced pattern/light coloration it seems):


So the clutch came out, and all 7 babies were healthy, happy little worms. 3 of them caught my attention immediately. At first, being the fail popper that I am, I thought they were all females. I kept checking every week/2 weeks though and so far (still have my fingers crossed) 2 of the 3 that I thought were awesome, including my favorite one ( ) have popped male. Here are my would-be holdbacks (after their first shed):

And last but not least, #6, he/she was my favorite out of the entire clutch... still makes me mad/sad that she turned out to be he



So here's where the "Dilemma" rears it's ugly head...Do I sell or do I keep the 2 boys? Do YOU see something? Or is it just a newbies wishful thinking dinking around with normals? I have the dad still, so in theory there's no "breeder" reason to keep the two boys, unless it's something...in which case having the extra boys would be great. Would you hold on to the boys? Or just keep the girl, breed dad back in a few years, and if something neat pops out oh well? This is a tough decision >_< To sell or to keep raising...UGGGH. Really wishing there was a huge indicator of morphism...like a big purple spot on their head that always meant they were a morph...that would make my life so much easier So, there's my dilemma. Help a girl out and give me your advice, or what you would do in this situation. Or just tell me to quit dreamin, bunch'o normies, and man up Thanks all, as usual, you rock.

My opinion - depends how much faith you have in them being something different.

If you think they are, hold onto them and get a couple big mommas. You'll have a corner on the market and be able to sell once they're proven. If you don't think they're anything, no reason to hold onto any of them unless you like 'em as pets.

Personally, I don't see a whole lot other than a slightly lighter colored dad and some orange-ish babies for whatever that's worth. Still though, if it was me and I thought I had even a remote chance at slapping my name on a new morph, I'd hold onto the critters. The cost of a few big breeder ladies lost vs the cost of losing out on a new morph... Think about it.

I like the pattern I like the little spot right behind the head and the lighter coloration and the striping down the back. might be something and might not. but if they were mine I would hold back all of them till I bred the father to a yellow belly.

If you have the space I'd personally hold them back and see how they change as they grow.

Well as a fellow "dinkerer" I'd say keep them ( if you have the space). There are some questions I'd ask, like out of your first clutch were there any babies 'at all' that had the reduced pattern or bright like these turned out?
If your really wanting to see things thru you can hold onto the babies and see how they age for a few months.

With my own projects if I look at a baby and can honestly see nothing about it that stands out from the 'norm' then it will be sold. Tho I also take into factor that there is the chance whatevers trying to be proven could be recessive.
I had a clutch this year where I produced a male butter that looks like it 'may' have a second gene at play, I already have a lucy so theres no other reason for me to keep a male single gene other than to see if there really is another gene at play. Almost 50% of my entire collection is dinkers & offspring so I have a bit of a habit of holding onto my babies anyways.

I vote for keep if you have the space because you never know. I know somebody that got rid of a snake that had a gene that he didn't realize until after the BP was gone. So I say hold on to them and breed to see how it turns out and how they turn out as they age.

I had to make a similar decision after proving my Dinkasaurus genetic. I decided that I would hold back everything until I was certain about what the gene is, and what it is capable of. I decided to hold everything back because I don't want to sell a product that I don't understand, and not because I think I may lose out on a ton of cash if it turns out to be something insane. I can't yet label the babies YB until I prove it allelic and prove that the super is an Ivory... Otherwise I would have to sell them as normals and then try to explain that they could be more... yadda yadda... just seems unprofessional.

They babies look great, and remind me of some "high yellow" stock I have seen. If you decide to sell, they are great looking normals and you shouldn't have an issue moving them as such. If you want to make sure there isn't more involved, have fun pairing to some morphs over the next year or two

I would hang on to the boys, and pair dad not only to his daughter again, but also to females like pastel, fire, yellow belly, or enchi to see if you can make better quality examples of those morphs.

they are nicer looking than some orange dreams I have seen for sale.....not saying they are orange dreams obviously, but I do think they could later down the road help enhance a color project. I would hold on to them and play around with them without a doubt. see how they look after a few sheds and make your call...I would at least keep a 1.1 pair of those bright, clean babies...and the other male until I felt either way if it was something special or maybe not...

Aww man....thats a tough one, Rosey. I guess if you are more than willing and able to invest the time, space, and money for that project, go ahead. But if it doesnt pan out.....
