Question Brand new and have a question...

Hello everyone! My boyfriend and I just added a young ball python to the family yesterday. It was sort of unexpected. We had considered it for the past few years but never made the leap. Well we just happened to be at a pet store out of town yesterday and low and behold a baby albino. OMG, he was just too cute. So the rest was history. I know I will have more questions as I'm reading a lot of conflicting information right now but first things first. He has his first vet appointment on Friday and I was wondering what the best way to transport him would be. My vet is about one hour and forty-five minutes from my house. Any tips? How long is too long for him to be out and about like that? Thanks everyone in advance for your input!

Welcome and congrats on a lovely addition! For transportation, I would put him in a tied off pillow case, and put that in a box. You can had water bottles filled with warm (not hot!) water if the temps are cool in your area. Or just keep the car climate controlled.

I'd give him at least a week with no handling so as not to stress him out. After that, we expect to see some pics of your little one!

Why are you taking him to the vet? Unless he's sick, it's unnecessary stress. I would work on perfecting his husbandry and not worry about the vet. It's money you can put towards his habitat.

Or if you want to meet in a middle ground, just do a fecal rather than a full exam. Cheaper and less stressful.

I'm a huge believer in establishing a relationship between any pet you have and their attending vet. I would feel better too (esp. since he came from a pet store) at having him thoroughly examined. My avatar is him, his name is Twinkie. I think it fits him, lol.
