    2013 Bumblebee Male + backstory

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to share this story and pics of this little guy with you. I got him as part of a trade about a month and a half ago. He had/has an awful woble ad was being force fed - he was incredibly underweight (at no fault of the person I got him from). When I got him home I had serious doubts about whether or not he was going to make it. His wobble was so bad that he he usually ended up on completely on his back, and would stay in that position. I have him a hide and spent some time showing him how to position himself in it - it was a very different experience for me. Got him eating F/T like a champ from the comfort of his hide. Since having that constant, he is coping very well, and seems to managing his wobble much better. I have high hopes for him and I am actually a huge fan of how he looks. Love the high white and super speckling. I think he may be with me for a long time .

Anyways, Here he is - Thanks for looking.

Awww he's so cute! Glad you got him eating and everything I have the same problem with a little bumblebee I have. He has a very bad head wobble as well and it takes him longer to eat but he eventually gets it. I think the wobble gives them character though. He's the goofiest snake I have.

    Thanks,

Yeah he is definitely full of personality. Not sure if breeding him is a good idea considering how substantial is neurological issues are - but he is absolutely one of my favorites. Glad you know where I am coming from - it's little guys like this that reminds me how much I love this hobby.

    2013 Bumblebee Male + backstory

Hopefully both of ours grow out of it. I've heard lots of stories where babies were born with terrible wobbles but as they got older it started to fade. Or breeders breeding two bad wobblers and getting babies that show very faint signs of wobbling. So you never know I would give up on breeding him though. He's so pretty! And even if the babies are wobblers people need to get used to it/over it or not deal with anything with the spider gene. So don't count him out yet hopefully when he is up to breeding size his wobble won't be so bad. I'm hoping this happens with my little guy as well.

Your story and more like it don't get to the non - reptile world enough.
Taking on animals that are not "perfect" but still need cared for shows the person you are.

That's a very good point!! I've heard of this as well. My breeder spider girl didn't have a wobble at all when I got her, but over the last few years it's gotten progressive - but her babies this year have absolutely no signs of a wobble. Who knows what's in store. I wish you the best with your guy.

Thank you I really appreciate you saying that. - And you're absolutely right, there is way too much negativity in the mass media surrounding constrictors especially.

The Spider Gene wobble actually reminds of genetic traits in dogs, such as German Shepherd and Hip Dysplasia. Some people will still breed them despite the possibility of it, and others won't. Whether you breed him or just keep him as a pet, that won't change the heartwarming story. :)
