We are planning on heading to the expo in Sacramento at the end of this month, but hadn't heard of that particular expo in Oregon!! After looking at it, if we can swing it, we will be there!

Thats good to hear. I'm just taking it one day at a time, ya know? I was in a total of 3 large IED blasts. I begged to stay in country on my last tour after the first.. and then the second... The third one not only put me out of commission, but a few of my comrades as well. (It was an E.F.P.) I consider myself lucky to be here and thank God and my wife for it. (Not to mention all the government provided healthcare.) I find solace in my pets. I got Conrad, my shepherd, a couple weeks after I was released from the hospital to stay at home. My wife is a pharmaceutical technician and works a lot. So my councilor had recommended pet therapy to me. The big theory behind pet therapy and soldiers with cases of PTSD is that.. Firstly, the pet and you have an unconditional bond. Secondly, with PTSD, there is depression. Having a pet that relies on you for care and his health redirects your mentality away from that stage. I can honestly say pets do make it feel better. I had always wanted to get into reptiles but never found the time being active duty for so long. Glad to now be a part of it. The only downside to it is... I wish they would digest faster because now.. after feeding her... I can only look at her. Although, Conrad never allows a dull moment in the day!

As far as the expo goes, I hope you guys make it! It will be my first, and I know its going to be super hard to not buy something there. HAHA! Not only do I want more snakes, I want a tegu with a passion. I'm thinking of just getting a hatchling because if I tell my wife how big it gets beforehand, I don't know how that will pan out. She will just have to grow to love it!

Isn't it sad that now Barack Obama cut back military funding.. The VA will no longer support financing pet therapy animals. And yet, we still have plenty of money to go to war with Syria... -________- Thats right Mr. Obama... THATS a whale face.

I am so sorry to hear of all that you have gone through and continue to go through You are a hero in every sense of the word. I am so glad to hear that you are finding solace in your pets! My husband's therapist recommended the same thing for him, as only 3 of them survived on the day that he was wounded, which has resulted in various PTSD symptoms here at home. (Dreams and depression, mainly.) He was going to head towards getting a dog, but now is thinking more along the lines of a Boa. Thus our trip to the Sac Expo, which will also be our first time attending a reptile show!

lol, now I have to look up a Tegu! I don't know what that is. And yes, perhaps play dumb as he/she gets way bigger than you planned on?

And I just finished my 48 hours of snake-staring. Sooooo hard! Can't wait to hold her today, lol.

Obama and his cut backs.... I'm not sure I can find a forum-appropriate emote face for that. So I think perhaps, I will +1 your whale face. -__________-

You should look into some of tr more "active" types of reptiles

My friend had a monitor that followed him around like a dog
    CRYSTAL MEPH

    1.0 100% Het for Carmel Normal–Mycroft (P. regius)
    1.2 Manx, Scottish Fold, Tabby–Mocha, Precious, Kitty-Beau (F. domesticus)
    30.90 Breeder Mice (M. musculus)

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ That make me lol!

Your husband is a hero as well!

I too still have nightmares on a regular basis. Its the worst part in my opinion. Insomnia has most defiantly set in. Most nights if I can swing not sleeping, I usually go that route. Should work out well because Pandora is a nocturnal creature, and Conrad loves to sleep!

I recommend that you don't look up Tegu if you don't know what they are.... You will want one. They ARE the puppies of the reptile world. Takes lots of time, and I have plenty. I will most definitely wait to move to a larger house. They need room, and lots of it! The adult enclosure should be 8x4x4. When they are out they are very social, loving, and attention seekers. Not to mention mobile!

You know, after posting that I hope you didn't read that wrong. I lined the arrows to your Obama comment and when I posted it, it realigned it. I was, in no way, shape, or form, laughing at what you said about your husband.

    Just wanted to clarify that.

I knew exactly what you meant! No worries!

I hope that Pandora helps you through the hard nights. The dreams are definitely, in my opinion, the worst part.

And now I have to look up a Tegu! Like, immediately.

Monitors are cool too, I just like tegus better. There is a forum here under lizards i believe for Tegus. Youtube has tons of tegu videos. There is a guy with a tegu named MacGyver and he is a 'roaming' tegu. He lets it roam his house like a dog. I also saw a video of a potty trained tegu. He holds it till they get home from work and once they let him out he goes strait to the bathroom first. Beelines it. Does his business then its ready to be a tegu again! Gosh, I love em.
