Sorry to me it's kinda on the order of "designer" dog breeds. My friend just paid close to $300 for a jack Russell/pug (Jug). Coulda went and adopted a mixed breed at the shelter

I spent close to $1000 on a pure bred Doberman freshman year of college and $500 on a Pure bred dachshund for my fiancé last summer... It my money, Why is it wrong? I couldn't imagine having any other dogs but these two they are a part of my family it shouldn't matter where they came from I got the two I wanted.

    Re: Boa hybrids?

I think he meant the breeding different breeds together creating mutts, when you can rescue a mutt any day of the week for much less $ at a shelter. It's really bad here in Flint, MI. People are breeding the exact same animals you can get at the shelters and calling them designers then asking big money for them. Then they get mad when someone calls the a backyard breeder. Dogs like Golden Doodles might be in demand, but Lab, Jack Russell, German Shepard, Pit Bulls, etc mixes are being euthanized every day at Animal Control there's no need to produce them on purpose to try to make money. With the millions of unwanted dogs and cats that are euthanized every year, it's really a totally different issue than snake breeding and hybridization.

I've spent thousands on purebreds as well... treeboa hit the nail on the head.
Yes it's different but could in fact turn into the same type of scenario.

Ohhhhh gotcha gotcha. Well I can see both sides as well still. Just because i want an xyz dog and a shelter has an xyz dog it's still up to that person wether they want that or to go their own way you know. Like I just can't justify telling someone they shouldn't be doing this or that as long as they aren't harming any animals I'm good with it

Let's be honest breeding different breeds of dog together is nothing new... How do you think we got all these pure breeds in the first place? I am in no way anti-hybrid as long as those who produce them do so responsibly. But I hold that to all people who decide to breed animals.

I agree that's how we got new breeds and I'm not saying don't do it at all... I'm saying do it for yourself not for money. Everyone that made a new breed had a plan in motion on how to get the desired effect... a standard to work towards. not just sticking two different breeds together to use silly names and call them designer. I'm not putting down the ones that have an "idea" that they are trying to get to...

Hope that kinda clarifies what I was trying to say???

I love those too. It's an example of a hybrid that occurs in the wild, too. These turn up from time to time in shipments from Guyana.
