Boa hybrids?
Hey guys, I was just curious on BCI hybrids that have actually worked?
I'm just curious as to what snakes can breed together and actually have off springs
.
Is there anyone on the form who has a hybrid?
I just want to know more about it!
Male albino ball : Sinister
Female albino yellow belly ball : Ripley
Female BCI : Phoenix
Female Gargoyle gecko : Stanley
Male liver GSD (:

I sent you a PM....
I don't know of anyone who has bred a BCI to a different species. There are crosses between SUB-species - that is done all the time. BCI x BCC or BCO etc... I believe someone once tried to cross an albino BCI to a Dumerils. There was no resulting litter. But that was between two snakes that originated from two separate continents. I have never heard of a cross between a BCI or BCC to a different species working. And I would seriously question someone's motives for trying.

These ain't mine but I figured I would post them up. Boacondas. Yup you read that right. BCI x anaconda. I believe someone in the UK did it. Not sure who tho. And no, I have no hybrids...yet...

Re: Boa hybrids?
why would someone want to cross breed anyways. someone I knew had burm ball and I wasn't impressed with the animals, just seemed like an over grown ball python to me (13ft)

Because humans like to be able to do things "just because we can". I thinks hybrids are pointless.
The hybrids that Kali talked about aren't quite the same thing imo, bc those are subspecies of BCI. Breeding a Hog Island to a Colombian will result in all bci's still.

I do have a hybrid (Jungle Corn=CalkingXCornsnake) and an intergrade (DiamondXCoastal Carpet Python) in my collection. The Complete Carpet Python brings up the point that the second any animal is kept in captivity it's evolutionary path is altered. So what's done with the animal from that point on is inconsequential from an evolutionary point of view. The other point is that even though some hybrids are almost indistinguishable from one of the parent species this only matters to hobbyists who are purists in their interests. The view that these animals could then never be used to restock wild populations is erroneous because that's just not done anyway. The risk of introducing disease is just too great. To me it's a personal decision and I would never tell anyone that they have to think one way or another.
PS Those Boacondas are pretty funky looking. They don't even seem real!

What does it matter? What if I want to make a hybrid and cross x snake with y snake? They are my snakes.. As long as I am not being cruel with sub par living conditions or malnourishing them I can do what I want.
