About my enclosure and its UTH

I dont know if you could see it or not but my substrate looks prettt darn dried and it is like bone-dried. Thats where my UTH is installed. And I havent seen my python going in there very often now, he have went in there for couple weeks when I installed it but not so much these days (maybe because it's very hot here[MD]) but what would be the good way to solve this issue? I have put alot of moss inside of the yellow hiding spot so he wont burn himself.

The UTH is on the outside of the bottom of the tank yes? Not in it.... And if you don't have one, please get it put on a thermostat, ASAP!!! Those pads get very hot unregulated and will burn your poor little no legged friend. You could grab a light dimmer switch from Home Depot or Lowes while waiting for thermostat to arrive.

I got a dimmer at Home Depot for $11, I would definitely get that until you can get a thermostat.

Although my hot spot above the uth is 89/90 and my substrate is dry in that spot

Yes, it's outside of the bottom of the enclosure. If there was thermostat, what temperature would you set it as and can I just use light dimmer all the way?

A light dimmer on a UTH only limits the power output and slows the time it takes to reach it's hottest temperature. Dimmers are mostly recommended for use with lamps where turning it down actually does mean lowering output from the lamp. And when you get s thermostat you will place the probe between the UTH and the glass bottom. And you will set it on whatever temp is necessary to achieve a hot spot of 88-92 on TOP of your substrate. A cautionary note: do not set it higher than 95, if your ball python decides to burrow closer to it and it's that hot you will likely get a burnt snake. If you find yourself needing to set it that high or higher to achieve the right hot spot then you need to reduce the amount of substrate you have down to a half inch or less. I recommend searching on Amazon.com for the HYDROFARM THERMOSTAT. It's low cost and it works. Many BP.NET users have them, beyond that a reptile specific thermostat is kind of expensive. Any other questions?

So how do you install the hydrofarm thermostat? Does it come with digital thermostat or probe like zoo med?

Like how would you know the instant reading of temperature at basking spot? Do I have to purchase seperate digital thermostat for that?in that case I would but zoo med since it comes with probe that reads instant temperature though..

Great!!!! Now, most of use the Acurite thermometer with probe to keep a eye on hot spot temp, stretch the wire across to the cool side under the substrate or run it up one side, down the other to limit wiring inside the tank. This way, the body of the thermometer is measuring your ambient temp, the probe keeps your hotspot and it also measures humidity.

$12.00 at Walmart in the fan/home improvement section.

Something I want to add, you should have two identical hides. The snake will choose the hide it feels more comfortable in even if it's not ideal temp/humidity wise. Log hides also aren't the best since they really like to ball up and feel squished in their hides.
