600g-1000g Wall (My Ball Python Stopped Eating-Help Trouble shooting)

My pinstripe male stopped eating for 8 months. Drove me nuts and I tried everything I could think of. Then someone suggested to change his substrate. So, that being one of the things I didn't think of, I gave it a shot. I waited two weeks for him to used to the new substrate. I tried feeding him and nothing happened again so I waited two more weeks. Then about two days before my next try, he shed. Feeding came, I presented the rat not expecting anything, when suddenly WHAM he hit thing like a freight train. Scared the crap out of when he did it too. Hope he eats again next week too. Point being, it takes patience.

Thanks! Yeah, it's unsettling and unexpected but not all that surprising. I did my research and knew that they went off feed but I tried my best to keep my husbandry tip top hoping that this would not happen. But, I feel better knowing that others have and are going through this.

On an unrelated note...we have been watching the STAR WARS movies and Empire is up tonight! (RetiredJedi)

Handling every day is too much IMHO. I only handle to clean tubs, weigh and pair.... thats it.

Wait till the next shed and try feeding a few days later without any handling.

I agree, I personally would be concerned with stress issues with daily handling. I handle once a week for sure for weighing purposes and then maybe once for cleaning out urates/poo or replacing paper due to spilled water etc. and then maybe one other time for photos or just holding/exercise. This has been pretty consistent for the year that I have had her.

I handle my girl everyday outside of the two days after feeding, and she still eats like a champ.. gained 16 grams already since I've had her.

A lot of you know I had tons of noob questions when I got her, but I'm getting the hang of it I guess I like to handle mine a little more then most people.. but it hasn't seemed to have any negative side affect on her

It had been two weeks since I last attempted to feed and I have to admit I used a rat that I had re-froze on a previous attempt...hopefully she will be back to her usual weekly rat for a while

Mine hit 900 and for a month now has decided to stop eating as well.

try feeding a smaller prey item especially if your snake appears interested but doesn't strike. My bumblebee hit the wall and stop eating for and throwing in a weanling rat babies kick start her appetite again
