Okay, we've all read about RI hopefully here is my question... today i noticed Icc with his head poked out of his hide and he was moving it up and down... looked sort of like a dog panting or a snake nodding... he did not have his mouth open at all though and his temps have not been cold (at coldest the temps were maybe 75 and that was only for like thirty minutes) they have been at 91 - 95 hot side and 78-84 cool side the humidity is still around 50-53 percent so I don't think he has an RI unless he got one from shipping.. but he was overnighted and had a big heatpack in the box... any ideas what this might be? Should I be worried?

I honestly don't know, but I think more observation is your best friend right now. We'll put ourselves in the hospital with ulcers if we freak out every time our critters move! LOL ....Seriously, watch him for awhile and see if you see anything else that might indicate something is wrong. If you don't, and you don't see a prolonged continuance of the odd behavior (nodding) then it's most likely nothing to worry about.

Ours sometimes look like they are doing that - usually it is just because they have thier head and a bit of neck elevated from the floor and their breathing makes it look like their head is moving up and down rhythmically. Come to think of it is is usually when they are poking out of their hide too - and have the top edge of the hide entrance restricting how FAR up off the ground they can maintain their elevated head. Maybe it is kinda like laying flat on your back and trying to hold your legs straight but half a foot off the floor - not as easy as it looks.

Hmmm....come to think of it, we were listening to Rachmaninoff's Third Piano Concerto and watching a huge storm come in...

    Anyone...

I wish.. I'm dying to hold him and see if he eats.. I am going to try to feed Thurs night so hopefully he will humor me and eat because i'm really nervous that he won't... I just got him weds (17) so I think it is a little premature for handling.... he is VERY active though.. he explores his tank all of the time! I came in this afternoon and watched him for an hour exploring .. i read that this is his "flight" response and that he is not comfortable yet in his cage.. is there anything I can do to reduce his stress or is his activity just exploratory?
on a side note i am building that humidifier from DIY tonight... i got all the pieces.. i don't need it now but it seems like a fun project and i will definitely need it next winter so hey why not!

Have you tried throwing a towel to keep it dark?
