they're fascinating snakes. more personality than any other snake i've kept. and man do they love their food. lol getting one as a baby is the way to go. so many people get scared out of them because of how big they get, but if you've wanted a big snake for a while and have kept your share of snakes before, i say go for it. if you get one as a baby, you get the reward of raising it from just a little handful to something truly awe-worthy. you also really learn to "read" your snake, which is very necessary with these guys. with him, as long as i can tell whether he's in food mode or chill mode i'm good. he's already pretty hook trained. i can knock him out of food mode pretty quickly now just by rubbing right behind his head with the hook. then i just reach in and pick him up. i started "hook training" him as soon as i got him and it took a little while for him to realize the hook meant no food, probably 2-3 months, but once they get the hang of it it's very nice. he's been such a pleasure to keep, i'm going to be really sad if they get added to the lacey act. i'd love to try and breed them one day, and i have no intentions of living in tennessee the rest of my life. lol

Love it! It's the snake I really can't own but wish I could. I just have to be realistic and leave it at that. I love them maybe the most of the constrictors although my boa is pretty fricking cool.

I am happy good, responsible people like you own and show these guys off like they deserve to be.

Keep the pics coming. I lurk in the python forums now and then.

I also like the Papuan pythons.

    You have a beauty there!!

yeah retics are the skinny guys of the "giants." i haven't owned any that size yet so i can't say for sure, and it also really depends on how heavily you feed them. but shooting from the hip, i'd say a 14-16 footer that was fed moderately would be about as round as a softball. i don't expect this guy to hit 16 feet. the breeder said his parents were on the smaller size for mainlands, but even if he does, he's not goin anywhere. lol
