    Missing the head

So I have a baby ball( first snake) and haven't switched to frozen thawed yet plan to next week. Today was feed day and I have been tong feeding. Today he missed the head completely and hit the mouse in the mid section and started constricting. I was about to put the lid on his container and let him do his thing but the mouse started bitting at Barron so I did the only thing I could think of doing. Out the tong in the mouses mouth so he couldn't bite or scratch. Is there anything I could have done to kill the mouse quicker like snap its neck or something? Normally Barron gets the head every time but I must have turned the mouse slightly? I just hate seeing the poor guy suffer last couple feeds its been head shots that snap the neck.

If its feeding off tongs try f/t next time.

As far as live biting some people use a pencil to control biting but anything that works will work. The few times I have had to feed live I just thump the feeder in the head with my finger. That stuns it pretty good and usually gets it to stop biting.

I'm sure someone else will chime in with more experience. If that happens again I guess you can try hitting the mouse/rat in the head with the tongs to try and knock it out. However, I don't think that is a good idea. You could cause the snake to refuse the mouse and not feed that day. Then you have a half dead mouse or dead mouse that you have to deal with. Personally, once the snake has struck and started to constrict, I don't put my hands or anything else back in the tank at all.
Best thing to do so you don't have to deal with that again is to get it on f/t, and hopefully you can get your ball to take f/t from there on.

This is why it's a bad idea to feed live off tongs, especially if you're feeding adult prey.

Just stick something in the mouth, that's all you could have done.
