    Exoterra Digital Thermomter/Hygrometer??

I was wondering if the Exoterra Digital Thermomter/Hygrometer combo is actually a reliable piece of equipment to get? I am always wary of the big reptile "brands" quality of products and wanted to get a second opinion.

    Thanks everyone!

    This one?

I don't have it personally but it's probably a decent piece of equipment. Thing is for that price I think you are paying mostly for the "exo terra" name. You can get almost the same thing much cheaper. Such as this.

Or even the accurite from Wal-Mart. Hope that helps some.

    Re: Exoterra Digital Thermomter/Hygrometer??

I`ve got 3 of these and they are very reliable.
They are also stupid expensive for what you get.

The real draw back is with most herps you want to allow them to thermo-regulate which means a temp. gradient from hot side to cool side...... So you still need a 2nd thermometer for this.

Any decent quality indoor/outdoor thermometer will give you hots side temp. & cool side temp. Some with rel. humidity can be had for under $15.

Don't get me wrong, I support Hagen/Exo-Terra with their facilities for breeding and studying the natural life cycle of several animals (they were the people responsible for successfully breeding Hyacinth Macaws if I am not mistaken, overnight dropping the price from $20k and up to around $15 and cutting down pressure on wild populations). But, for your average person it doesn't make sense to purchase their thermo-hygrometer + an additional thermometer.

They're pretty accurate in my experience using them, however retail price is stupidly expensive. I got multiples on amazon for cheaper, but accurites can be as cheap as $4-9 there. Having a probed hydrometer in my big tank is useful though. I can know when my boy poops without even lifting the hide box.

Based on the recommendation of another member I bought these in bulk (10) and then just picked out the ones that were the gave the same temp reading when they are placed side by side. I kept 8 of them and threw away two if them due to inaccuracy.
