If you head over towards Tampa both Busch Gardens and Lowry Park Zoo have decent reptile sections. The Florida Aquarium in Tampa is also a really cool place.

X2 for GatorLand, they have some awesome stuff and if you or your boyfriend are even remotely interested in Alligators, this is a top choice.
Also not sure if you are interested but I know some swampy areas of Florida have airboat tours that are awesome. You have a chance to see some really cool wildlife, I don't know of any near Orlando off the top of my head but I'd check it out
I second the alligator farm recommendation. It's about 2-3 hours from where you're staying though
The Tampa Lowery Zoo is awesome and one of the top zoo in the country.
The central Florida zoo is about 45 minutes from where you're at and is a great visit. They have pretty nice reptile room as well as a great insect room. http://www.centralfloridazoo.org/
