    Black Axanthic vs MJ Axanthic.

Which is least likely to brown out?

I've been thinking one of these would make a good additions and am leaning to the MJ mostly because he is local and having seen a number of the snakes he produces I would have high expectations of getting a quality animal.

I am however not fond of how the VPI's seem to brown out and hope the Black ax has better quality through to maturity.

Has anyone here worked with either line? And, how happy were you with the results?

The Black Axanthic is still a very new morph, most people out there don't even have hets let alone visual black axanthics to compare with. All I know myself is that Justin kobylika has visual black axanthics and has produced from them.

This seems to be the opposite of what most breeders think. Our VPI pastel is one of the best I've seen. From what I have seen, Jolliff line is the most brown as adults, then SK, and VPI seem to hold the silver more than any other line. This isn't just my opinion either.
Here is our VPI Pastel female at around 1800-2000 grams.

Same snake indoor with flash during her ovulation.

Again, choose whichever line you like the best. What I have seen over the last 10 years or so is VPI is the top choice of most breeders.

x2 (although I'm admittedly far from being a big name breeder). Whenever I start to think one of my girls is looking brownish it's always because they're about to shed, and then they're right back to silver.

I am curious how the black axanthics will progress though.

OooOoooOoo pretty. I also like the GHI x Mojave... If there was a way to clean up that gold stripe down the back, it would a sight to behold. Can't wait to see what yours look like! I can't stop looking at that black axanthic... drool...

Re: Black Axanthic vs MJ Axanthic.

I will tell you why I chose TSK axanthics over VPI...Fewer people working with them. Both VPI and SK have poor examples and great examples. This is do to selective breeding, aka breeding the fine examples to more fine examples. VPI is by far the most popular so there is a ton of breeding for quantity over quality. Now I find that some of the most respected breeders are choosing SK and are selective breeding for quality. If you were to ask me TSK overall is a higher quality blood line of axanthics. I think VPI being the "best" is just something that is repeated, but not justified. I will put my super pastel SK axanthic female to my stunning Superfly male and I'm going for QUALITY. I'm not knocking VPI, just there is a ton of VPI's out there that barely even look axanthic.
