    Fending off Insects

So as many of you know, I relocated back to MN for a new job recently. With the new house I was able to finally get a dedicated snake room that I can heat/cool separately. With our human offspring growing up so much faster and now in that stage where they run in and out of the house leaving the doors wide open, I am finding more and more mosquitoes, flies, gnats and other insects in our home including the snake room. Went to scrub water bowls yesterday and noticed a moth in my BCI's enclosure and a couple gnats in my Spider's water dish.

So what do you guys use to help control the pest populations in your room that is safe for your snakes?

Hi in Duluth right next to the woods. An I leave in a trailer. I have tried covering every air gap from windows an I keep the door shut. But the trailer has gaps so I clean as much as I can and will be getting the fly strips.

Fly strips or something similar is all I can think of. Anything aerosolized seems to have too much potential for danger. I sympathize with you Minnesotans - the mosquitos there outgrow the cats!!

Haha rich everytime I see the little jumping spiders that made their home somewhere around my rep room because of you I have been thinking of them as pets I let roam like a dog lol they seem good at keeping the little bugs down that get kicked up when people mow around here an I never see them in snake or rat cages. Have found one hanging out on top of my dubia cage tho lol

Tell the kids to close the door. And don't keep a porch light on unless you really need it. I live in WI so we have similar bug issues, but if the door is closed (And only opened for as long as it takes for someone to get through it) and if the porch light is off you should be good. The light will just attract the masses and they'll get carried in with the open door.

Though the amount you're describing seems a little crazy, are you sure there isn't a gaping hole in a window screen or something?

Thanks everyone. Yeah, as much as I am strict, kids will be kids. It may have come across as they're just infesting the house, but it's really not that many. We've had 6+ inches of rain the last few weeks so it's been prime bug conditions and haven't run into this after all these years....then again, I haven't ever had an eight and ten year-old with that much energy either...

My 8 year old would love the idea of free range spiders...mom not so much
