    Laying Inverted

Does a gravid female lay inverted before ovulation, after ovulation, or can it happen anytime during their pregnancy?

This is my first attempt at breeding BP's, and I have been following Markus Jayne's EXCELLENT tutorial (http://www.ballpython.ca/gallery/breeding.html), but I wasn't too clear about the laying inverted part. She just shed on June 15th...and I was thinking that it was her pre-lay shed, but I could be wrong since I am not 100% sure that I saw her ovulate.

    Thanks guys and gals....

Put it this way... sometimes they lay inverted after they eat…sometimes they lay inverted just for the hell of it.

I have never seen her lay inverted in the three years I have had her. I'm sure I could have missed it, but I check on all of my snakes every day. I guess I was just wondering if they layed inverted during any particular phase of the breeding process.

    Re: Laying Inverted

My female laid slightly inverted (more on her side then on her back) before she ovulated. She's only 6 days post ovy but no laying inverted yet.

Both of mine have done this (Kay every time; this is my first year with Iris), and they did it both before and after ovulation. From what I hear, they all vary, but Kay very rarely lays inverted outside of pregnancy, and Iris did not start doing this at all until after she started building and now she is doing it frequently.

There are other signs that a female is gravid, but this has always been a flag for me.

I've had males lay inverted after a meal. It really doesn't mean anything other then they're stomach is uncomfortable enough that they don't want to lay on it. Gravid females often lay inverted because they're more comfortable that way, but seeing a snake laying inverted is not a sure fire sign that it is actually gravid.

Thanks a lot everyone. I am fairly certain that she is gravid as I have seen lumping, bowl wrapping, and basically every other sign besides ovulation. I saw what I thought may have been ovulation, but I am not 100% sure. I guess only time will tell.......
