I think it's because they do not tolerate that stuff here or on Fauna. Facebook is the last place these people can go.

They get banned and they create new names or they have multiple names that they use to post. I doubt 99% of them would say those things if they were face to face with someone.

Most of them I got added to without my permission. Some I left, others I immediately unsubscribed and removed the person from my friends list for adding me to a group without asking me.

I don't even read them for the most part.

    Facebook Breeder Groups

I chose to leave those groups because the stupidity in there was getting to my head!

    Facebook Breeder Groups

I find that bickering happens everywhere, this site included. What I hate is the cliques that develop and stick together no matter what is said. Happens everywhere. There is still some good knowledge to be had but I find sometimes the deliverer doesn't know how to present it.

I joined a local herp group that I ended up leaving once the main posters ended up saying something insulting about politics outside of reptiles. I found them to be generally unsavory characters, and then once they started posting things that had little to do with reptiles, I bailed. I'm certain there are folks on here who would disagree with my lifestyle choices, but no one that I've encountered here is enough of a :cens0r: to say anything about it.

I think it's mainly that we're all on here for one thing-- the care of our animals. You don't get that kind of exclusivity on Facebook. It's a very self-involved community over there.

OMG! Did I mention that I cannot stand Facebook groups?

I think I was wrong to single out the groups. What I really dislike is the people that frequent them and make snide remarks and try to belittle others, never alone but in packs.

You wouldn't recognize their names because they have been banned from all the forums. When they get thrown out of a Facebook group they make up a new name and rejoin. It's very difficult to keep them out and they know it.

Ignore them as you would any other troll.

    Re: Facebook Breeder Groups

I have mixed feelings. Some threads has good content and interesting debates But overall, I do agree with you that people are arrogant, conceited, and put others down.

I just recently joined and started participating in the BP Breeders group. Some guy just randomly outed me with false accusations. It had nothing to do with the thread and I had no idea what he was talking about or who he was. Eventually he admitted he thought I was someone else once he realized I truly had no recollection of what he was accusing me of...... Just so rude.

Yeah, not a fan of some of the members...

    Re: Facebook Breeder Groups

I joined them with the hope of presenting myself as a competent owner and future breeder. However, I too have noticed that they are very, very clicky and sometimes, downright hateful towards some people. I do like the classified groups because there are a lot of people that browse those and I see them as a great venue for selling. In fact, I'm picking up a great mojave from an ad that I saw on there from a reputable breeder. I think there's a lot of good to be had, you just have to go digging for it.

I joined a couple local groups AFTER reading their posts about their animals. I joined with the intentions of directing them through what I have learned here and on other forums to better ownership of their animals. Many I see are buying snakes one after the other with no knowledge of what they are doing and the intent of breeding to make money. I quickly learned that these people are extraordinarily hard headed. Even when given good direct information with links and references to books and breeders, they still know best. One case a person was continuously buying normals to breed and was getting angry because they wouldn't produce unique looking off spring "like they saw online". I am FAR FAR FAR from an expert but i had hoped to help remove these narrow minded views over time. I found it better, though regretfully, to simply walk away from FB groups entirely. They are not moderated and the group creators word is generally law and undisputable. Its very unfortunate that misinformation is so easily spread and those involved aren't willing to research what they read before applying it to their collection. I feel its each individuals responsibility to their animals to find out what is best through multiple reputable sources but many don't share this view.
