Pine Cat Litter

Before I start, I would like to say, that NO, my reptiles are NOT on pine. Just thought I'd make that clear before I start.

So I just adopted a resue cat from the vet's office Iwork at. Poor little girl is missing an ear and a leg, but is the sweetest cat I've met.
The only concerne I have, is that I use a pine cat litter for her. I like it much better than clay, it makes less of a mess, and it smells nice. But the smell is what worries me. I know pine is toxic to reptiles, and the room my reptiles in is also where the litter box is, and the room smells like pine.
Is this a problem? Should I move the litter? Is just the sent of pine toxic as well?

the oil in pine is toxic, I don't think you should have any problems

Im not even sure......If I had to guess, and again, just a guess, I would prob say its ok, because your balls aren't living directly on it, inhaling the fumes. I would just crack a window or leave the door open. I have my rodents on pine in the same room we keep our incubator and large breeder female rack in with no ill effects.

Its fine. The pelleted stuff is safer than the actual shavings. I've used it for my rodents and as ferret litter in the past with no I'll effect to them or the snakes, who are also in the same room.

The problem with pine is debatable, I would suggest kiln dried pine is actually safe for repties. Highly processed pine pellets should not pose a problem at all.

Pine being toxic is largely a myth, as it's only the oils in untreated pine shavings/bark that are harmful. Cat litters and most animal beddings do not contain the harmful oils.
