Male breeding losing weight

Hi guys, wondering how much weight a male could lose before deciding to take him out from a breeding project. I have a 1100g lesser male , been breeding for 4 months, however had stop eating for 2 months, now weight at 938g, still breeding like stud.

Need some advise on it. Thanks

I was able to get a male to feed when he was in a breeding frenzy by cleaning his tub and everything in it thoroughly and then using a baby wipe and rubbing him down head to tail. It kind of knocked him out of it long enough to get interested in a meal.

That seems like a good amount of loss - hopefully someone with more experience will chime in. Good luck!

You have about another 30-50 grams of weight loss before I'd be pulling him for the season.

My Lesser male was 817g when he started breeding in September and did not feed till April this year (didn't want to eat, and was breeding like crazy ), and got down to 765g in April before his first meal, so in almost 8 months he lost only 50g. I was surprised myself .

Any other tips for getting males back on feed? My mojave has been a breeding machine, but even though I haven't paired him for months, he still will not eat.

I will try scrubbing his tub and wiping him down. He is starting to scare me now!

How about using live prey to jump start a feeding response? Live mice or asfs.

I'm not very experienced with it but have talked to a few people that said if u are able to move him to a different room and try to feed him I guess for 24 hrs then try that may work idk though good luck lol sorry I wasn't more helpful

I'm in the same boat. My bee is going to get pulled out for the season. He has zero interest in food and only wants to breed. I think he's lost enough weight to pull him

Thanks for the feedback. I would say 30-50g sounds good to him, yea, he is rotating with 3 girls actually, 1 just laid today, 1 ovulated yesterday, 1 still building and getting really huge even without food for 2 months.

Guess that his season is almost done with a few more kungfu to do with the remaining female.




Yea guys, this freaks me out a little as he is been a eating machine, however it just stop for almost 2 months now and lose 10g whenever there is a lock. I will give him in for another 50g lost maximum before separating him to another room. Yeap, I did tried frozen and live rats, not working. Thanks for all your advise ! Hoping for the best
